It’s time to make the call: we now have a strong idea of the best cards in Kobolds and Catacombs!

Before launch, Kobolds and Catacombs card speculation was the number one theme for the entire Hearthstone community. Every player predicted the hottest cards in the set, but it’s really hard to know what’s going to be good versus unplayable before an expansion is released.

Now that Kobolds and Catacombs is officially out, we can see which cards are solidly over-performing and are must-crafts for the new meta. I’ve played a lot since the release of this new set, hitting high Legend and also scrimming with my pro team SILENTGAMING. So let me share the best cards you need to craft from Kobolds and Catacombs.

Best Cards Kobolds & Catacombs: Silent Creeper

Best Cards: Corridor Creeper

We saw in the Trinity Series how strong this card is. Team LUL played it in the most decks and in my opinion, it’s the best performing card in Kobolds and Catacombs at the moment and on the same power level as Bonemare, if not higher. This card provides an amazing tempo swing. Since it’s a neutral card, it will be played in every aggro deck and most midrange or tempo-based decks.

Best Cards Kobolds & Catacombs: Spellstones

Best Cards: Spellstones

The Spellstones are a new mechanic in Kobolds and Catacombs. They have a «Start» effect and can be upgraded if they are in your hand and you complete their corresponding quest. In my opinion, every Spellstone, except Paladin and Shaman, is viable and could be a played. It’s hard to say if they are that good. At the beginning, Spellhunter was a top-tier deck. If you check statistics today, there barely any Spellhunter anymore because minion-based hunter is more consistent. The verdict is still out on whether these cards can find a home – so get brewing!

Best Cards Kobolds & Catacombs: Call to Arms

Best Cards: Call to Arms

 Call to Arms is a nice boost for Aggro or Murloc Paladin. The community as a whole underestimated this Kobolds and Catacombs card, as recruiting 3 minions is surprisingly very strong. You can play cards like Dirty Rat and  get 2/6 stats for free ! Its also a big tempo swing and in combination with Corridor Creeper, this card is just awesome.

Best Cards: Kingsbane

New in Kobolds and Catacombs are legendary weapons. Each class got a legendary weapon, and some of them are okayish, some of them are unplayable – and some of them are potentially busted. Kingsbane is the Rogue legendary weapon, and definitely the one to keep an eye on. A 1/3 weapon isn’t special, as is the first Deathrattle effect « Shuffle this into your deck » too. But the second passive effect is awesome : « It keeps any enchantments. ». If you buff the weapon with minions or spells, the weapon keeps every single buff  like Lifesteal, even if it’s destroyed. There are already a few weapon Rogue decks on ladder, and this card definitely has the potential to break out – particularly at Worlds!

Best Cards: Voidlord

Voidlord’s stats aren’t great for a nine drop. But with Oakheart or Gul’dan and his Deathrattle effect, this card is a must play for every Handlock fan. Overall this is a strong performing card that is going to keep Warlock high tier. Mandatory to craft.

Carnivorous Cube is perhaps the most underrated card in the Kobolds and Catacombs set. There are too many possible combos! For an example: imagine an equipped Warlock weapon pulls out a Doomguard on your turn. You attack with the Doomguard, and eat it with the Carnivorous Cube. If the Cube dies, you get Doomguard again. On turn, you can play Gul’dan and get a few Doomguards. Ridiculous! This is how easily abuse-able this card is!

Best Cards: Psychic Scream

Lightbomb has historically been the strongest removal spell for Priest. But since the new Standard rotation, Priest didn’t have any good AOE removal. Yes, they Dragonfire is strong in principle but there are too many Scalebanes in this meta. With Psychic Scream in Kobolds and Catacombs, Priest finally gets a good AOE clear with a nice effect: you can shuffle your minions as well in your opponent’s deck and deny Raza in the Highlander Priest mirror match. Plus you can shuffle 1 drops into your opponents deck which is really annoying late game. And you can even shuffle in big Jades to weaken a Jade Druid opponent. This card will be in every Priest deck – it is exactly what the class needed.
